As the weeks pass by and the stress of the pandemic presses on, I find myself feeling more and more grateful for not only my health and my family’s health but for the people on the frontlines. When I go to the grocery store, I try to thank everyone for working there as I shop. These workers are often putting their lives at risk for not much compensation. My son’s Godfather is a nurse who works with COVID-19 patients. He goes to work every day, putting his life at risk to be there for them.
As the CEO of iTelecom, I am also grateful for our technicians. We have some of the best technicians in the country. Each day they too put themselves at risk to ensure that essential workers have access to the technology they need to do their jobs.
I have seen programs, posts, and ads thanking a lot of the frontline workers, but none for the IT guy who rolled out to a site to fix a damaged cable or replace a WIFI access point. Nor for the technicians who ventured into high-risk places like nursing homes so that they can ensure patients can stay connected to families via the internet or the back-office engineer who worked overtime to ensure your staff could work remotely at a moment’s notice.
So, let me say thank you to all the technicians who showed up, thank you to all the engineers who finished the designs, and thank you to the countless IT professionals for making sure we can work securely from anywhere. You are frontline heroes, and I am grateful for each one of you.
